Therefore, procedural ethics alone does not meet these needs. This can be seen by the fundamental flaws in the design of ethical codes, the failure of such codes to adequately protect the subject and the researcher during a study, and finally in the ways that personal values and beliefs can be combined with procedural methods to arrive at the most ethical solution for a given problem. The fact that ethical codes are often written by those who do not actually participate in research studies leads to many of the fundamental problems with procedural ethics. Codes may written in vague and unscientific language, and sometimes are impractical in a ctual research situations, as ethics in practice may differ from ethics in theory (Roberts and Indermaur 2007). A researcher cannot always stop to consult a code or committee of ethics, and should be able to rely on his or her own moral judgment (Henn, Weinstein, and Foard 2006:73). The focus for improving ethical behaviour among researchers should therefore be on building individual moral virtue and integrity as much as or more so than attempting to perfect standards for behaviour (Devettere 2009:363). Researchers must pay close attention to the wording of their surveys or the nature of an interview, for example, in order to ensure the subject is entirely aware of their choices about participation; the procedural guidelines cannot possibly cover all informed consent situations. Poor research practices are not excused for mistakes or omissions; those practices remain unethical behaviour. (Hoye and Severinsson 2007). None of this, however, should be taken to mean that procedural ethi cs does not have a place in medical or social research. Prior to the existence of ethical codes, researchers often took part in studies that today seem horrifying, and there were very few consequences (McNeil 2010). Study subjects were exposed to dangerous and sometimes deadly situations, and were not always fully informed as to the true nature of the experiment (Henn, Weinstein, and Foard 2006:71). While the data gathered from such studies has been useful in medical science, it is obvious that such unethical practices could not be allowed to continue. Modern procedural ethics began with the Nuremberg Code, written as a result of the Nazi doctors war crimes tribunal. The first internationally accepted standards of behaviour for medical researchers, the Nuremberg Code is a listing of 10 points that should be met in ethical research on human subjects. The primary purpose of the intervention was, â€Å"care of premature babies†. DISSCUSSION: The birth of a baby before the developing organs is mature enough to allow normal postnatal survival. Premature infants are at greater risk for short and long term complications, including disabilities and impediments in growth and mental development. Significant progress has been made in the care of premature infants, but not in reducing the  prevalence  of preterm birth. Preterm birth is among the top causes of death in infants worldwide DEMOGRAPHIC DESCRIPTION: Mean age of the respondents were years. Most of the respondents were in the age group of 21-30 years (72.5%). In regard to education out of 40 respondents 13(32.5%) were post graduate, occupation 32(80%) were employed, religion 37 (92.5%) belonged to Hindu religion, with regard to monthly income 16(40%) were under 11000-20000, as for the years of marriage 25(62.5%) respondents were married for 1-5 years. Regarding type of family 25(62.5%) were in nuclear family. Demographic variables of the babies were included, out of 40 mothers 25 (62.5%) were having male baby. Considering the weight of the baby 17 (39.5%) were having more than 2 kg, considering the type of delivery 32(80%) had LSCS. Regarding the gestational age 22(55%) was under 32+1-35 weeks of gestation. Regarding the number of hospitalization 19(47.5%) were less than 10 days. The first objective of the study was to assess the caring skills of mothers with premature babies The present study findings revealed that, the mean pretest knowledge score of the respondents were 12.12. The mean post test knowledge score obtained was 18. The findings revealed that, the mean coping abilities of mothers with premature baby was 82.65. Chen TJ et al., (1998) conducted a study on effectiveness of videotape education for mothers of prematurity. The researcher selected Sixty two mothers were randomly assigned to a control group or experimental group. During hospitalization mothers were assigned to the experimental group received additional study regarding the knowledge and skills of caring for premature infants. The mothers in the control group received routine educational care. The findings indicated that mothers who received a videotape education reported having more knowledge and confidence of caring their preterm babies than the mothers who were in the control group. Moreover mothers in the experimental group have perceived lower stress than in the control group. The second objective of the study was to determine the effect of educational intervention on caring skills and coping ability of mothers with premature babies The present study findings revealed that, that the mean pretest and post test knowledge score of respondents before and after the educational intervention on care of premature babies were 12.12 and 18 respectively. The t’ value is 21.32 for the mean difference in the pretest and post tests knowledge score of mothers with premature babies, it is significant at 0.05 levels. These findings substantiate that the educational intervention is effective intervention of knowledge gain. The finding is consistent with swati.s.,(2013) conducted a study on to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding management of low birth weight babies among postnatal mothers in selected community. The study tested and accepted that, there is a high positive correlation between caring skills and coping abilities of mothers with premature babies. MAJOR FINDINGS OF THE STUDY The mean pretest knowledge of the respondents were 12.12 The mean posttest knowledge of the respondents were 18 The mean coping abilities the respondents were 82.65 The ‘t’ value is 21.32 for the mean difference in the pretest posttest knowledge score of respondents which is statistically significant at 0.05 level. CONCLUSION The following conclusion was drawn from the study. Effectiveness of one to one teaching programme improving the mother’s caring skills of premature babies. The study proved that there is a significant difference between pretest and posttest knowledge of caring skills of mothers premature babies. The study proved that the caring skills was positively correlated with their coping score The study proved that there is no association between the caring skills and coping abilities with their selected demographic variables IMPLICATIONS Numerous implications can be drawn from the present study for practice which promotes and creates a new dimension to nursing profession and will bring numerical changes in the practical behaviors. The present study results have several implications on nursing practice, nursing education, nursing administration, and nursing research. Nursing practice Nurses can teach the care of premature babies to mothers whose babies admitted in NICU by using LCD. Motivate the mothers to give better care to their babies. Nursing education The study helps to provide knowledge in preparing mothers to provide care to the babies. Nurse educators can encourage the students to gain knowledge in care of premature babies. Nurse educator can encourage the students to learn skills in demonstrating care of premature babies in obstetrical and gynaecological wards. Nurse educator can prepare the nurses in motivating the mothers for care of premature babies by means of explanation and demonstration. Nursing administration Nurse administrator can plan and organize in service education for nursing personnel regarding care of premature babies. Nurse administrator can encourage the nursing personnel to conduct a longitudinal study of caring skills of premature babies. Nurse administrator can organize a video show regarding the caring skills of premature babies. Nursing research Nurses must develop newer instructional technology towards nursing education and nursing practice on care of premature babies. The study gives emphasis to practice evidence based findings. The study lays down a foundation for further research LIMITATIONS Only forty samples were included in the study due to the time constraints. The study is limited to who has delivered baby before 37 weeks of gestation. RECOMMENDATIONS A similar study can be conducted for a large group in different areas on a long term basis. Similar study can be conducted among other health personnel. Similar study can be conducted by using true experimental design. Similar study can be conducted by using different teaching strategies. The results of the study was the mean pretest and posttest knowledge scores of the mothers with premature babies before and after educational intervention were 12.12 and 18.while mean score of coping abilities of the mothers with premature babies were 82.65.In comparison of caring skills and coping abilities, ‘t’ value of caring skills was 21.32 which is significant at 0.05 level. Coefficient of correlation between caring skills and coping ability is 0.76 which shows that there is a high positive correlation between caring skills and coping abili ty. There is no association between pretest and posttest knowledge score of the respondents on caring skills of mothers with premature babies and their education, occupation, income, type of family. The conclusions of the study were the teaching intervention of the caring skills of premature babies has significantly improved their knowledge and coping abilities.

It was a chilly nineteenth century Christmas Eve, and everybody throughout England were in a festive joyous mood, prepared for Christmas. Everybody except Scrooge who thought Christmas was a waste of money. Scrooge was money hungry, solitary, insensible, uncaring and selfish to say the least. Well he was not completely uncaring about everything. He did seem to care a bit too much about money. He cared so deeply about money that he did not feel heat or cold. No warm or wintry weather effected him. No amount of rain or snow could keep him from going to work. Slowly nature had reformed his features to resemble his heart. He had a pointed chin, shriveled cheeks, dim scary eyes with patches of black underneath, and thin blue lips from which a rough low voice was produced. The only one who ever greeted him was his cheerful, golly, and merry nephew. But his kindness only caused Scrooge's hatred towards him to deepen. They had many discussions about Christmas. It always ended with Scrooge ge tting very mad and using the word humbug in every other sentence. His nephew however always left in the same happy mood without saying one heated word to Scrooge. During his life, Scrooge got a visit from 4 ghosts. The first one was his deceased friend Jacob Marley. That ghost scared Scrooge out of his wits. Then there was the Ghost of Christmas Past, - a supernatural figure with white hair but not a single wrinkle in its face. The Ghost of Christmas Present, a giant who is very golly and is dressed quite elegantly in a green robe. The last one the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. He is a scary phantom. All Scrooge can see is the black robe covering him. Scrooge can?t see his face either. The phantom is the scariest because it is mute and never says a w... ...ck home and scrooge immediately falls asleep. When he wakes up and sees that it is Christmas morning he starts jumping and running all about. While he is struck with this great amount of excitement, he shaves, irons his best pair of clothes, buys some poor families a big turkey, gives money to the beggars, and goes to his nephew?s house where they are celebrating Christmas. The nephew opens the door to Scrooge and everyone is hearty. He cares for all and is always full of merriment. His laughter is contagious, and he becomes quite popular among kids and adults too. The next day Scrooge highers his clerk?s salary. The clerk is happy and the Scrooge becomes very close to the clerk?s sons and daughters. Tim survives and Scrooge is like a second father to him. During the rest of his life Scrooge gives many poverty-stricken and penniless people money. All ends well.

Isolationist Policy In The United States (1920’S And 1930’S) Essay

Isolationism pertains to the foreign policy that involves two major actions, non-intervention with regards to military actions and protection of economic activities. In the area of non-interventionism, the political leaders are observed to circumvent any coalitions with other countries as well as any participation in warfare and other forms of self-defense activities related to territories. In the area of protectionism, legal barriers are erected in order to regulate any exchanges related to trade and sharing of cultural information with individuals representing other states. The concept of isolationism is often mistaken as a non-interventionist way of thinking or philosophy and international policy associated with liberty, which entails unrestricted trading and traveling between individuals from any part of the world. It is thus best to employ the term libertarian isolationist as the policy of non-intervention or not participating with any activities or not getting associated with any political relations with a foreign country yet still retaining the capability of participating in free trade. The doctrine of non-participation of the United States through the refusal of entering into any form of alliance, agreement or commitment with a foreign country has been observed during different decades. Such isolationist policy is also coupled to the attempts of the United States to instill a sense of self-reliance based on a stable economy by dedicating efforts of the advancement of the country, in both routes of diplomacy and economics, while maintaining a condition of peace by keeping away from any associations with other countries and responsibilities. It is understood that developed countries generally engage in trade relations with other countries in order to expand its labor force as well as raise their standard of living based on the rise of the country’s economy. However, the United States is known to follow a protectionist policy which entails isolation from any form of engagement with trade relations with other countries. The leaders of the United States believe that such policy is beneficial to the United States, while economists express the opposite, that such policy is detrimental. Other critics have expressed that since the United States is recognized as the biggest consumer of the world and carries it own rich natural resources, it can identity specific conditions that should be applied to products and services that are brought into the country. This condition is the opposite of the free trade policy, which allows any country to perform any particular action that is recognized to be their expertise, and in turn benefit from the trading of their products. The adoption of the isolationist policy is the result of the conditions of a particular country, such as war, crises and uprisings that may originate from other countries. The isolationist policy adopted by the United States was mainly due to the effects of World War I, the Great Depression and the significant influx of immigrants. The decades of the 1920’s and the 1930’s were characterized by the isolationist conditions in the United States, wherein there was social seclusion from any form of engagement with countries around the world. The coined attitude, known as the Red Scare, was based on the Sacco and Vanzetti trial. In this setting, Americans gave more focus into instilling tranquility in their homes, more than providing efforts in achieving and instilling peace in other countries. It has been described that the United States adopted the isolationist policy because the country was already exhausted by global issues at that time. With this in mind, the political leaders of the United States were very anxious in staying away from issues and associated effects of war. This can be observed in the Kellogg-Briand Pact of 1928, which stated that war was outlawed as a tool for international policy. In a public address given by Warren G. Harding in the 1920’s, it was expressed that a supergovernment is the least of the United States’ dream and in turn, attention should be given to national issues instead. It was also stated that adopting the isolationist policy is not selfish, but is actually a form of sanctity. The result of the Treaty of Versailles is another example of the adoption of the isolationist policy by the United States in the 1920’s and 1930’s. In this case, the U. S. Senate did not agree to ratify the Treaty which states that the United States would engage in the League of Nations. The United States’ refusal to approve this Treaty showed the contempt of the U. S. over concepts of idealism at the international level, because the United States feels that engaging in this Treaty would eventually lead the country to war. The United States then was actively expressing the war is a contagious disease which can spread around the world at a very fast pace. With this stand, the Neutrality Acts of 1935, 1936 and 1937 were created, which prevents the re-emergence of ties between the United States and any war actions or policies (Doenecke, 1982). The many faces of isolationism are clearly shown during the 1920’s and the 1930’s. During these decades, the political and social views and American policy were turned towards isolationism, such as the increasing fear of communism, exhaustion from the idea of war, and the anti-radical hysteria. In the next decades such as the 1950’s, these same socialist isolationist views were also evident, but this time the political policy was turned towards and internationalist point of view.
